FrontDoor APX for DOS --------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to FrontDoor APX, the premier electronic mail system for points running in MS-DOS compatible environments. FrontDoor APX (pronounced "APEX") is the first and only COMPLETE electronic mail and file transfer system specially designed for points, requiring no additional software, such as conference mail processors, compression software, FOSSIL drivers or external utilities and will operate in a minimum system environment of 400 Kb of disk space, 384 Kb of RAM, and a 80286 (or better) CPU. Electronic mail brings new dimensions of usefulness to the Personal Computer. With FrontDoor APX, it is easy to set up new paths of communications within an organization using equipment that in most cases is already present. Requiring no more than a laptop or a PC, a telephone line and a modem, FrontDoor APX transfers mail and files with a designated server. If the final destination is somewhere other than the designated server or another FrontDoor APX user not serviced by the same designated server, the message and files will be transferred to the recipient's designated server via your server. Many companies are using modems and ordinary terminal programs to transfer information. For example, a spreadsheet has to be transferred from a branch office to the main office several times a week. With ordinary terminal software, this requires two employees, one at each end to initiate the transfer. It often takes several failed attempts before the file goes through properly. In addition to the cost of having personnel supervising something that two machines should be able to accomplish on their own, it may also require hours of telephone time at unnecessarily high phone rates. In contrast, FrontDoor APX can accomplish the same task in a session that automatically dials the server and negotiates a session with multiple security check-points to ensure the protection of valuable information. It will then transfer the files, along with any messages, to the server using reliable file transfer protocols with advanced (32-bit CRC) error checking to guarantee data integrity. Waiting messages and files are received during the same session, and then FrontDoor APX automatically terminates the completed session. Reliable communication means that nothing is distorted or corrupted during the transfer, even across extremely poor line conditions. If a FAX were to be used to send a manuscript back and forth for repeated editing and revisions, it would very soon be completely illegible. With FrontDoor APX, the actual file can be sent back and forth an unlimited number of times without ever losing a single character. An added advantage is that the same software can be used to edit the document at both locations. FrontDoor APX makes inter-connectivity a reality today. With the easy installation, coupled with an extensive on-line help system available at the touch of a key, FrontDoor APX can be installed and configured in less than 15 minutes by most users. Anyone can configure and use FrontDoor APX in minutes, experience in electronic mail systems is not required. Security comes naturally with FrontDoor APX, providing session and packet password security. FrontDoor APX is designed to operate with a single server, such as FrontDoor. All transactions are with the server system, affording management control of all transfers. A network can be configured to include as little as a single FrontDoor Server and a single FrontDoor APX point, or it can include unlimited FrontDoor APX points operating under multiple FrontDoor Servers. FrontDoor APX and FrontDoor can meet your requirements, whatever they are. FrontDoor APX is clearly the front runner in electronic mail systems for networks utilizing the point concept. Combined with the power of a FrontDoor server, an effective, secure and manageable electronic mail network provides the ultimate in electronic communciations.
